McCalman out with fractured cheekbone

Western Force star Ben McCalman has been ruled out of the team’s last game of the season after fracturing his cheekbone.

The Wallabies No.8 injured himself in the Force’s 33-20 loss to the Brumbies on Friday.

He’ll now miss this week’s showdown against the Melbourne Rebels, the Force said on social media on Monday.

The injury comes less than a week after the 27-year-old signed a deal to keep playing with the Force until the end of the 2018 season.

The flexible contract also allows him to play the 2014-16 season in Japan’s Top League following this year’s Rugby World Cup.

McCalman, who has played 38 tests for the Wallabies, will now work on recovering in time for the Rugby World Cup in September.
