Jones keeps faith for England v Wallabies

England have retained the same forward pack that sealed the 2016 Six Nations championship against France for the opening Test against Australia in Brisbane.

Coach Eddie Jones had reportedly been contemplating moving youngster Maro Itoje from lock to blindside flanker but believes the formula that delivered the title in Paris is good enough to defeat the Wallabies on Saturday night.

“We aim to win every Test match we play and I am pleased with our preparation since we landed in Australia,” he said.

“The group have acclimatised well, trained hard and there’s a buzz around the camp.”

Former NRL player Ben Te’o has missed out on selection, with Luther Burrell retained at inside centre alongside five-eighth Owen Farrell.

Marland Yarde will start on the wing after an impressive display against Wales before the team departed for Australia in late May.

Fullback Mike Brown will earn his 50th cap as England attempt to win a Test series in Australia for the first time.

“If you look at England’s record in Australia it’s pretty ordinary,” Jones said.

“We’ve only ever won three games in Australia so it’s a great opportunity to put down a marker and create history.

“It’s important we get off to a positive start and we’ll arrive in Brisbane ready to play physical and aggressive rugby.”
