Jenkins to boost Aussie sevens for Vegas

Veteran Ed Jenkins will return to boost Australia’s injury-depleted rugby sevens men’s stocks for next month’s World Series fifth leg in Las Vegas.

Former captain Jenkins, having recovered from a shoulder injury, adds 47 caps of experience to the youthful side that came fourth at the Sydney sevens earlier this month.

Australia, ranked sixth on the championship standings, also welcome back another Olympian Nick Malouf, who returns from an extended injury lay-off after the 2016 Rio Games.

Only two other players in the Las Vegas squad, James Stannard and Henry Hutchison, were in Australia’s team for last year’s Rio Olympics.

After finishing a disappointing 10th in Wellington, Australia bounced back in Sydney to finish a game shy of the final before losing their third-place match to New Zealand.

Australia will meet reigning world and Olympic champions Fiji in the group stages in Las Vegas, as well as Japan and Scotland.

Australia: Henry Hutchison, Liam McNamara, Sam Myers (capt), Alex Gibbon, James Stannard, Tate McDermott, Tim Anstee, Tom Lucas, Ed Jenkins, Nick Malouf, Brandon Quinn, Lachie Anderson.
