Jaguares account for Blues in Super Rugby

The Jaguares have scored two second-half tries and hung on for a 23-19 win over the Auckland-based Blues in the final Super Rugby match of week three.

The Blues lost the ball five metres from the tryline with a minute left and then lost the ball again in a scrum-feed to allow their hosts to kick the ball out of play and secure their second victory of the season.

The Blues were ahead after three penalties to two until three minutes before halftime when Ramiro Moyano went over to give the Jaguares an 11-9 lead.

The visitors edged back into the lead with a penalty from Otere Black 10 minutes into the second half but a second try by Moyano on 65 minutes and another from a line out drive by Julian Montoya just four minutes later put the Jaguares ahead by 11 points.

A try from back-rower Dalton Papali’i and a conversion from Black in the 73rd minute reduced the deficit but the Blues were unable to take advantage of their late chances.

They have lost all three of their matches in 2019.
