Skipper James Horwill make his long awaited return for the Queensland Reds in their final pre-season hit-out against the Chiefs on the Sunshine Coast on Friday.
Horwill has not been sighted since tearing tearing his hamstring against the ACT Brumbies last May.
He will be welcomed back into the Reds line-up along with fellow new faces Saia Faingaa, Jake Schatz, Dom Shipperly and Chris F’Sautia while lock Rob Simmons is back after serving a five game ban.
“I’m a terrible spectator at the best of times so it’s a huge relief to be out of Team Rehab and in a position to play once again,” Horwill said on Tuesday after missing last weekend’s trial opener, a 41-35 win over the Blues in Toowoomba.
The clash with the Chiefs will be their final trial before their Super Rugby season opener against the Brumbies on February 16 in Canberra.
Reds trial squad: Luke Morahan, Rod Davies, Ben Tapuai, Mike Harris, Digby Ioane, Jono Lance, Ben Lucas, Jake Schatz, Liam Gill, Eddie Quirk, Rob Simmons, James Horwill (capt), James Slipper, Saia Faingaa, Greg Holmes. Reserves: Albert Anae, James Hanson, Jono Owen, Ed O’Donaghue, Adam Wallace-Harrison, Nigel Ah Wong, Curtis Browning, Jarrad Butler, Nick Frisby, Dion Taumata, Chris F’Sautia, Aidan Toua, Dom Shipperly.
