Highlanders flanker James Haskell has been cited for punching Cheetahs loose forward Justin Downey during their Super Rugby match in Bloemfontein on Sunday (AEDT).
The English international is accused of striking Downey late in the first half as he left a scrum.
There was a scuffle between several players immediately afterwards. Referee Marius Jonker consulted his assistant referees before issuing yellow and white cards for the incident.
The SANZAR citing commissioner reviewed match footage, and decided the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The Highlanders recorded their seventh win of the Super Rugby season, after trailing by 21 points with half an hour remaining. Replacement five-eighth Chris Noakes slotted a mammoth 50m penalty to secure the last-minute 36-33 win.
