George Smith cleared of kneeing

Wasps flanker George Smith has been cleared of kneeing Gloucester’s James Hook during an English premiership match last weekend.

An RFU disciplinary panel met on Wednesday at a London hotel and dismissed the citing against the 35-year-old former Wallabies superstar.

Smith was charged with striking Hook on the side of the head in the second half at Kingsholm, where Wasps lost 13-10.

Veteran Smith has been outstanding for Wasps this season, leading the team in the absence of James Haskell and Matt Mullan, and was named the competition’s player of the month for February.

He has also been conducting coaching sessions on the breakdown for England, who are coached by his former Wallabies boss Eddie Jones.
