Western Force halfback Alby Mathewson has been cited for stamping on an opponent during the side’s 18-15 upset win over Super Rugby champions the Chiefs.
The New Zealand No.9 is alleged to have stamped on Chiefs forward Sam Cane in the third minute at nib Stadium.
Referee Lourens van der Merwe awarded a penalty for the incident and, upon further review of the match footage, SANZAR’s citing commissioner deemed that the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The citing will be considered by SANZAR judicial officer Adam Casselden.
