Israel Folau ranks his Super Rugby crown with the NSW Waratahs right alongside his NRL grand final triumph with the Melbourne Storm – but knows this one can’t be stripped.

Folau joined an elite group of only five players, including Sonny Bill Williams and Brad Thorn, to have tasted grand final glory in both major football codes when the Waratahs eclipsed the Crusaders 33-32 in a thriller on Saturday night.

The dual international had his 2007 premiership with Melbourne removed from the record books for the Storm’s massive salary cap breaches, but says he still feels like he’s accomplished the rare golden double.

“Even though that premiership in `07 was stripped, the playing group that was involved then, you still count it as a premiership,” Folau told AAP.

“Tonight is definitely up there and definitely can’t be stripped and I feel very honoured to be a part of such a very close group.

“It’s been a great season. The amount of effort the boys have put in all year, not just this year but the last two years, and this just tops it off.”

Folau just keeps on ticking boxes.

He joins Williams (Super Rugby’s Chiefs and NRL’s Bulldogs and Sydney Roosters), Thorn (Crusaders and Broncos), Peter Ryan (Brumbies and Broncos) and Will Chambers (Queensland Reds and Storm) as the only players to complete the cross-code grand final double.

The 25-year-old in 2014 also became the first player ever to top the try-scoring charts in a regular season in both the NRL and Super Rugby.

Folau finished this campaign with 12 five-pointers, equal highest alongside Crusaders winger Nemani Nadolo, who joined the Waratahs fullback with a dozen by scoring in Saturday night’s title match.
