Faingaa twins to talk Wallabies to victory

Wallaby twins Saia and Anthony Faingaa have no problem admitting they’re “over talkers”.

In fact, if you’re watching a Queensland Super Rugby match, you might hear the brothers before you even see them.

When he wasn’t blowing penalties, referee Steve Walsh even told Saia in last week’s match against the Brumbies to: “stop yelling – you sound like a girl!”.

But even if it’s high-pitched, there’s no such thing as talking too much when you have just two light training sessions to prepare for a Test match.

Coach Robbie Deans will get his squad together on Sunday and pick a team which will face Scotland just over 48 hours later in Newcastle on Tuesday.

There’s no escaping the fact the Wallabies will need to take some shortcuts and, in a largely inexperienced squad with limited preparation, the role of hooker Saia and centre Anthony shouldn’t be underestimated.

The twins are often roused on by their parents for their on-field chatter, but Deans will welcome the help they provide in bringing other players quickly up to speed with calls and combinations.

“My voice is very unique – you can definitely hear us. Even my mother and father can say (after watching the news), ‘why are you screaming so much? The ball isn’t near you guys!’. But it’s part of the job,” said Saia.

“It’s been a good thing we’ve come in (to camp) a week early. I think it gives us good background leading into the Test.

“For the guys that come back over the weekend (after Super Rugby), it helps us drive them with the patterns and standards and what we want to do in terms of that Tuesday game.

“We’re definitely looking at this as a serious Test match and by no means are we taking Scotland lightly.”

The brothers have been hindered by respective injury battles this year and are grateful for Deans showing faith and selecting them despite their lack of match time.

Saia says the limited preparation won’t be a problem for the Wallabies and it’s up to individuals to simply do their job.
