Chiefs winger cops three-week ban

Chiefs wing Maritino Nemani has been suspended for three weeks after admitting a dangerous tackle on his Blues opposite Rene Ranger.

Nemani, who was yellow-carded in the Chiefs’ 41-34 on Saturday night, pleaded guilty to a “tip-tackle” on Ranger 35 minutes into the match.

Ranger was not injured in the tackle.

Sanzar judicial officer Mike Heron sidelined Nemani from all forms of the game until after June 23.

Heron said the offence, which was found to be mid-range, had a starting sanction of six weeks, which was reduced after the early guilty plea, Nemani’s previous clean record and his remorse.

Nemani will be ineligible for selection for the North v South match on June 10 but will be available for the Chiefs’ next match, after the three-week break for the Test against Ireland, on June 29 against the Highlanders.
