Rejuvenated Brumbies utility Robbie Coleman is loving the sensation of feeling fast again.
Coleman has notched four tries in four games for the Australian Super Rugby conference leaders from his latest position on the wing.
His freakish second try against the Stormers last Saturday underlined the 23-year-old knack for producing game-breaking plays.
Nicknamed The Prince of Queanbeyan by former Brumbies star Matt Giteau, Australian Schoolboys, Under-20, and Commonwealth Games sevens representative Coleman says he felt slowed by some injury niggles over the past two years.
“I finally got a full pre-season under my belt this year and I’m feeling a lot better for it,” Coleman told AAP.
“It’s good to finally feel fast again and get to play some minutes and I’m really enjoying this role on the wing at the moment.”
Versatile Coleman has played in all backline positions bar outside centre for the Brumbies and doesn’t mind getting the often despised utility tag.
“I haven’t played a lot of wing, but I like to apply myself,” Coleman said.
“A lot of people don’t like the utility role and want to lock down one position, but I really enjoy being able to cover all positions,
“I enjoy training for the different aspects. I feel with the game evolving, wingers should be able to step in there as a ball player or as a kicker.
“I feel the more I get used to the wing, the more I can get myself involved and add a bit extra there for the Brumbies.”
The Brumbies have won their past four games since starting with a home loss to the Reds.
They hold a one-point lead over NSW at the top of the Australian conference, though the Waratahs have played one less match.
Coleman stressed the importance of the Brumbies winning their next three games, starting with Friday’s clash with the Rebels in Melbourne.
‘We want to win these next three games and we feel if we can go seven out of eight coming into the bye week it sets us up for a real shot at coming in that top three spot at the end of the year,” Coleman said.
“These next three games are huge for us and it doesn’t get any easier with the Rebels, the Blues and the Reds.”
