Brumbies’ Tomane back for Reds rugby clash

Gold Coast NRL convert Joe Tomane has won back a place in the Brumbies’ starting line-up and will get his chance on the wing in the Super Rugby clash against the Queensland Reds on Good Friday.

It is one of several changes to the Brumbies’ team that lost narrowly 29-26 to the Sharks at Canberra Stadium last Saturday, and which heads to Brisbane this week with the task of taking down the defending champions.

Matt Toomua’s season-ending injury last Saturday forced a tweaking in the backs, with Christian Lealiifano reclaiming the No.10 jersey and Pat McCabe moving back to inside centre, allowing Tomane to slot in on the wing.

Tomane, who came to Canberra from the Titans, was unlucky to be placed on the bench against the Sharks, having impressed with two tries a week earlier in just his second Super Rugby game.

Dan Palmer has resumed his place at tighthead prop after a week’s rest, while Ita Vaea has been named to start at No.7 over Michael Hooper.

Nic White was brought in at scrum-half over Ian Prior.

The Brumbies, the Australian conference leader after six rounds, are planning to inflict a fourth loss in a row on the Reds, and have history to back them up, having never lost at Suncorp Stadium.

Brumbies: Jesse Mogg, Henry Speight, Andrew Smith, Pat McCabe, Joe Tomane, Christian Lealiifano, Nic White, Ben Mowen (capt), Ita Vaea, Peter Kimlin, Sam Carter, Leon Power, Dan Palmer, Stephen Moore, Ben Alexander. Res: Anthony Hegarty, Ruaidhri Murphy, Scott Fardy, Michael Hooper, Ian Prior, Zack Holmes, Tevita Kuridrani.
