Brumbies re-sign four more rugby players

The Brumbies have taken further steps to retain their promising young Super Rugby squad with four more players re-signing.

Andrew Smith, Jesse Mogg, Scott Fardy and Ita Vaea have all signed contract extensions, with the latter signing for two years while the others committed for a further year.

The Brumbies, who lead the Australian conference, have re-signed nine players in the past two weeks.

Massive Tongan-born loose forward Vaea knocked back offers from other Australian teams as well as overseas to stay in Canberra.

“I had a few offers to think about in re-signing but, speaking with my family and some of the boys, I realised this is the best place for me to become a better player,” Vaea, 23, said.

“I’ve learned enough to know that there is something special going on with this young group of players and I’d hate to miss out, playing somewhere else.”

Fullback Mogg, 22, said he intended heading back to Brisbane this year before he was given an opportunity and made his debut against the Force in the opening round.

“To be here with a one year, fulltime deal at the Brumbies is exciting for me and my family,” said Mogg, who has been likened to former Brumbies great Joe Roff.

The Brumbies host the NSW Waratahs on Saturday night.
