Australia have booked a berth in the quarter-finals of the Gold Coast international rugby sevens tournament after winning their second pool match against Scotland.
The hosts easily accounted for the Scots in a 22-0 romp, scoring four tries to none and ensuring they’ll be in the last eight on Sunday.
Australia’s final pool match on Saturday against Fiji will determine who finishes top of Pool B with both sides having won their matches against Tonga and Scotland.
With Wallabies’ squad member Luke Morahan sidelined after injuring his knee in the opening 31-14 win over Tonga, Australia made light of his absence against the Scots.
Lewis Holland began the rout, going over untouched after picking up the ball from a ruck midway through the opening term.
Matt Lucas ensured a comfortable 10-0 lead when he glided through the Scottish defence to sprint clear and post his first try of the tournament.
Sean McMahon, who scored two of Australia’s tries against Tonga, notched a third for the tournament when he muscled his way over in the corner.
Lucas then slotted the conversion to add the extras and extend the lead to 17-0.
Former Gold Coast Titans NRL player Shannon Walker then marked his first outing as an Australian rugby sevens player by scoring the final try to complete the win.
Scotland made a late break after the siren but Australia showed plenty of spirit to chase the breakaway down and ensure a clean sheet for the match.
The final pool match against defending Gold Coast tournament champions Fiji kicks off at 7.46pm AEST.
