Aussie women two from two at Sydney 7s

Australia have thumped Papua New Guinea 50-0 to go two from two on the opening day of the Sydney 7s, setting up a clash with France to determine who finishes on top of the pool.

The hosts opened the tournament with a 29-0 defeat of Spain earlier on Friday and were careful not to expend too much energy against PNG ahead of Saturday’s quarter and semi-finals.

Charlotte Caslick toyed with the PNG defence to score twice in the first half, while Ellia Green continued her promising comeback from a knee reconstruction with her second try of the day.

The points kept coming in the second half, with Emma Tonegato crossing twice in the final stages to complete the blow-out.

Australia now meets France, who toppled Spain 22-0 after inflicting their own 50-0 defeat on PNG earlier in the day.
