Former Australian international lock Mark Chisholm gave struggling Top 14 side Bayonne a much-needed boost on Tuesday as he extended his contract with them by three years to 2016.
The 31-year-old – a member of the Brumbies side that won the 2004 Super Rugby title – has appeared in 11 of Bayonne’s 12 Top 14 games this season and made such an impact in his first season at the club last term he has been made club captain.
“I left Australia to experience living in France, it has been extended and I am very happy,” said Chisholm, who was capped 13 times by the Wallabies but missed the 2011 World Cup because of a serious knee injury.
Bayonne are 11th on the table just five points above the relegation places.
