The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has lifted its moratorium on Super Rugby player contracts and promised to honour deals for those who sign with a team which is subsequently axed.
ARU chairman Cameron Clyne also refused to rule out the possibility that all five Australian Super Rugby teams could remain next season amid legal threats associated with plans to cut either the Melbourne Rebels or Western Force.
“We obviously recognise that we’ll have to honour those (player) contracts, and that’s what we intend to do,” said Clyne, as he announced the contract moratorium was being lifted on Monday.
