Alexander extends Brumbies stay into 2018

Veteran Brumbies prop Ben Alexander will extend his Super Rugby career into a 10th season after signing a one-year deal for 2018.

Alexander, who has 72 Wallabies caps, was buoyed by the prospect of working under coach Stephen Larkham’s replacement, assistant Dan McKellar, and former coach Laurie Fisher, who returns as an assistant.

The Brumbies lead the Australian conference and are set to be boosted next season by the likely returns of Wallabies David Pocock and Christian Lealiifano.

The 32-year-old shares the ACT-based franchise’s record for most caps with George Smith on 142.

He is likely to eclipse the mark when he returns from injury over the final rounds of the season.

The Brumbies next play the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on July 7.
