South Africa rugby selectors have included nine uncapped players in a 34-man squad for the four-nation tournament with Scotland, Italy and Samoa starting next weekend.
Six of those newcomers hadn’t been included in a Springboks group before as coach Heyneke Meyer promised on Saturday to give debuts in coming games.
Four members of the Cheetahs Super Rugby team were chosen; props Lourens Adriaanse and Trevor Nyakane, flanker Lappies Labuschagne and wing Willie le Roux.
Meyer also picked two members of South Africa’s 2012 Under-20 World Cup-winning team; Pieter-Steph du Toit and Jan Serfontein.
The other three without a test cap are loose forwards Siya Kolisi and Arno Botha and scrumhalf Jano Vermaak.
Backs JP Pietersen, Jaco Taute, Frans Steyn and Johan Goosen, and No.8 Duane Vermeulen are all out with injury.
