Australians impressed with Olympic village

Australia’s Olympic team boss Nick Green is delighted with the team’s accommodation at the athletes village in London, including vital room for a barbie.

Green has just returned from a fact-finding operational trip to London in which he inspected every aspect of the team’s set up, right down to the location of data points for computers.

“We were very impressed with what we saw,” Green said on Wednesday.

“We were measuring up the village space we’ve been given, making sure we can do what we want to do.

“The village is looking fantastic – it’s superb.

“It’s been built obviously as a legacy venue so there are some slight limitations on space but everyone’s in the same boat. We’ll make the most of what we’ve got.

“We normally set up a very good Australian area.

“The location we’ve got we feel is one of the best locations in the village. Close to the transport, close to the dining hall, close to some open space, away from the noise and distraction.

“We’re very happy with what we’ve got. There’ll be room for a barbecue, which is an essential part of it.”

Accommodation for the sailors in Weymouth and the rowers and canoeists in Eton Dorney has yet to be finalised, but Green said details should be known by the end of the month.
