Australia tipped to dominate Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014

The Aussies were best on ground having a heap of fun at the Opening Ceremony (except for maybe those Scottish Terriers and the Loch Ness Monster) and while it looks like the good times will continue once the events start, the odds suggest it won’t be our best Commonwealth Games ever.

Although the Aussies are priced at $1.40 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to better their medal tally compared to the 2010 Games in Delhi, $3.25 is set for them to win their most gold medals ever (more than 87 from 1996) and $4.00 to win their most medals ever (more than 221 from 2006).

They look good odds to get close to that figure however, with a line of 79.5 gold medals set – $1.77 priced for more than that and $2.05 for less.

One of those gold medals looks set for Sally Pearson, priced at $1.40 to win the 100 metre hurdles. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for Melissa Breen in the 100 metre sprint, a massive outsider at $101.

“Australia’s domination of the Commonwealth Games is short odds to continue in Glasgow, but unfortunately the odds suggest we will fall short of our best ever result. Although this would be one market we are happy to get wrong if it means more Aussies winning gold!” said sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson.
