The Wolf has been hard at it doing Olympics form, hunting for winners in sports from archery to weightlifting and everything in between. Here are The Wolf’s Tokyo 2020 tips for Day 2 on Sunday.
SWIMMING
Men’s 400m Freestyle – Medal
BET: Gabriele Detti (ITA) at $1.83
Australia’s Elijah Winnington is the hot favourite based on his times this year, particularly at the Australian trials. The value looks to be with the Italian Detti, who has the second best 400m PB since the last Olympics (recorded back in 2019). Won bronze at Rio.
WEIGHTLIFTING
Men’s 61kg – Gold
BET: Eko Yuli Irawan (INA) at $2.60
The Men’s 61kg is a two-horse race between China’s Li Fabin and Indonesia’s Eko Yuli Irawan. Looks a genuine pick ‘em so happy to jump aboard the outsider. There is only 1kg between recent best lifts here.
FENCING
Men’s Individual Epee – Medal
BET: Bas Verwijlen (NED) at $3.60
The No.7 in the world looks excellent value. He made the quarters at the World Cup in March and won the World Cup in 2020, his fifth individual World Cup win in a decorated career. This is his fourth Olympics but he enters this in arguably the best form of his career.
Women’s Individual Foil – Gold
BET: Ysaora Thibus (FRA) at $7.50
Odds-on favourite Inna Deriglazova looks way too short here. Ysaora Thibus has a good record against the hotpot with two wins in the last three. The Frenchwoman has been in quality form with semi-final appearances.
SHOOTING
Men’s 10m Air Rifle – Gold
BET: Sergey Kamenskiy (ROC) at $7.00
Been the dominant force in the 10m Air Rifle since the last Olympics. Won the 2018 World Championships, the 2016 European Championships and World Cup events in 2017 and 2019. Silvered at Rio in a different event but will improve on his 16th-ranked finish in this event last time out.
Women’s 10m Air Pistol – Gold
BET: Vitalina Batsarahkina (ROC) at $18.00
The Women’s 10m Air Pistol is a wide open affair. Russian Batsarahkina has been very consistent in recent years with a silver at the 2021 Euros and the 2019 World Cup. She won silver at Rio so can lift at the big events.
