2012 London Olympics – Australian Olympians

20-year-old Blake Gaudry will be taking part in his very first Olympic games and will be hoping to bounce back a gold medal to his hometown of Adelaide by winning in London on the trampoline. Gaudry is a former gymnast but switched to the bouncy bed at 11 years old. It is a move that has more than paid off with the youngster now heading to the games with an outside chance of causing an upset after winning back to back national titles and placing 5th in the recent Olympic test event. Blake will be Australia’s only representative in the trampoline event.
Despite being something of a veteran in sport of canoeing this will be 30-year-old Kynan Maley’s first appearance at the Olympic games. Maley has held the dream of representing his country for around 15 years and had earned enough points to qualify for the 2004 games but missed out on selection to veteran Robin Bell who would eventually retire after winning bronze at the 2008 Beijing games. Maley is now the number one guy and will be hoping for success in both the C1 and C2 canoeing events.
At just 20 Anna Flanagan is one of the babies of the national hockey team but her immense natural talent saw her make her debut at senior level as an 18 year old. Flanagan learnt her craft at the Wesley South Perth Hockey Club and already has a commonwealth gold medal under belt. She is also seen as one of the Hockeyroos premier penalty takers after working on her technique with the world-renowned guru Toon Siepman.

For 5000m runner Craig Mottram it is a case of been there done that as he prepares for his fourth consecutive Olympic games. The 32-year-old finished 17th when he made his debut at the world most glamorous sporting event in Sydney, and followed that up with an 8th place finish in Athens four years later. There were high hopes that the Victorian could take out a medal in 2008 after winning bronze at the 2005 World Championships but he finished a disappointing 13th and London will be his last chance to make the Olympic podium.

Carmen Marton is a World Cup silver medalist and World Champion bronze medalist at Taekwondo. This will be the 26 year olds second Olympic Games after she made the quarterfinals at the Beijing games in 2008. The Melbourne trained Marton will be hoping to get herself a medal this time around and is in good form after winning the recent Dutch open and finishing 3rd in the World University Championships.
