Cox enjoys win over former netball team

New West Coast captain Catherine Cox enjoyed instant success on Friday in her first hitout against former team NSW Swifts on the opening day of the pre-season trans-Tasman netball tournament at Tauranga in New Zealand.

Shooter Cox, who moved across to Perth after captaining the Swifts for several seasons, made 10 of her 12 shots as the Fever scored a 40-33 win.

Cox combined with another Australian Diamonds’ shooter Caitlin Bassett, who nailed 28 out of her 33 attempts.

Fever, the only one of the five Australian teams not to have won the trans-Tasman tournament, never looked back after taking a 15-8 lead at quarter-time.

In another early game, Adelaide Thunderbirds scored a 41-32 win over New Zealand side the Pulse.

It is the first time all 10 teams are participating in the pre-season tournament.
