Michelsen wins FIH award

New Zealand hockey player Stacey Michelsen has been named the women’s FIH young player of the year.

The skilful midfielder was presented with the award at the Champions Trophy tournament at Rosario in Argentina.

Netherlands captain Maartje Paumen collected the player of the year award.

Michelsen, 20, held off competition from Dutch pair Joyce Sombroek and Willemijn Bos, USA star Katelyn Falgowski and fellow Kiwi Charlotte Harrison.

Michelsen made her debut in 2009 and has already played in 70 internationals.

She is a central figure for the Black Sticks with New Zealand having collected the bronze medal at last year’s Champions Trophy.
