Hockeyroos lose 1-0 to Dutch in Argentina

The Hockeyroos succumbed to a strong Dutch outfit on Tuesday morning (AEDT), losing to the world No.1 team 1-0 in Buenos Aires.

The Australians started the match slowly, allowing the Netherlands to open the scoring in the sixth minute through a field goal.

The Dutch dominated the opening 20 minutes, amassing six shots on goal from 10 circle penetrations.

Australia managed to assert themselves in the second half, producing a number of strong chances to equalise, but three opportunities went just wide of the net.

The Hockeyroos doubled their circle penetrations in the second half but could only manage four shots on goal. The Dutch recorded identical statistics for the half displaying the closeness of the contest.

“While we didn’t win today, it was excellent to see we are once again capable of competing with and defeating the No.1 team in the world,” said Hockeyroos coach Adam Commens.

“The belief we take out of these matches is crucial and an excellent step forward in our preparation to London.”

Best players for the match were awarded to Jodie Schulz, Kobie McGurk and Jade Warrender.

The Hockeyroos play third-ranked Germany in the next match on Thursday morning (AEDT).
