Hockeyroos defeat Germany 3-1

The Hockeyroos’ successful tour of Argentina has continued with a 3-1 win over world No.3 Germany in Rosario.

With Australia having previously downed Holland in their opening tour match, the signs are all good early in the Olympic year.

Emily Hurtz opened the scoring for the Hockeyroos early in the match before the Germans levelled in the 23rd minute from a penalty corner.

Scores were level at the break but second-half strikes to Casey Eastham and youngster Kellie White sealed an impressive win for the Hockeyroos.

“It was an encouraging performance against the world No.3 and confirms the progress we have made,” coach Adam Commens said.

Eastham, captain Madonna Blyth and Kobie McGurk were the best performers for the Hockeyroos, who will go into their fourth and final match of the tour against Japan full of confidence.

“The next match will be interesting. Our players will meet a highly motivated Japanese team at the end of a long demanding tour,” Commens said.

“We are looking for an improved performance again tomorrow to finish the tour with another victory.”

The match against Japan will be played early Friday morning (AEDT).
