WA Goldfields PGA Championship 2013 Preview

The PGA Tour of Australia heads to Western Australia this week for the WA Goldfields PGA Championships which is being played at the Kalgoorlie Golf Course which was designed by Graham Marsh.

The course is a rugged desert layout in the heart of the Western Australia outback. The fairways are lush and the first cut of rough is very playable. Several greens are contoured making it hard to read them. The Par is 72 and the course measures 6037 metres.

Last year only six players managed to make par or better, with the winner Peter Wilson finishing at 5 under par.

Many big names in Aussie golf have won this tournament which dates back to 1933. Players like Michael Long, Stephen Leaney, Greg Chalmers, Peter Senior and Ken Nagle.

The bookies Top 5 in betting are- 7/1 James Nitties, 10/1 Scott Laycock, 10/1 Terry Pilkadaris, 14/1 Scott Strange and 16/1 Rohan Blizard.

One name to keep an eye on is young Victorian Nathan Holman at 18/1. This will be his first tournament as a professional. He is ranked the World No.25 Amateur player. Early this year he put together three great results on the Aussie PGA tour. T19th Victorian PGA Championship, T5th Blackburn Heritage Classic and T2nd Victorian Open.

The player to follow this week is-

Daniel Bringolf 100/1  www.sportbet.com.au

Daniel finished off his 2012 season as an amateur with a win in the Federal Amateur Golf Open in Canberra. It was a three shot victory. Then then turned pro.

In 2013 he joined the Asian Development Tour were he played in nine events and finished seventh in the Order of Merit. His results were 51st, 9th, 27th, MC, 34th, 23rd, MC, 2nd and 28th.  The 2nd place was in the Ballantines Taiwan Championship which was in August.

With a name like Bringolf he is sure to be a big hit with the fans as his profile rises over the next 12-18 months. This 23 year old Sydneysider is a class act who has a great short game.

Expect to see him up there challenging over the weekend.

Good luck and good punting.
