2018 British Grand Prix F1 Preview, Bets, Tips and Odds

The British Grand Prix is one of the most highly-anticipated race weekends on the Formula 1 calendar and the world’s best drivers will light up Silverstone throughout the next few days.

Englishman Lewis Hamilton absolutely dominated the meeting in 2017; claiming pole position, setting the fastest lap time and ultimately walking away the race winner. Hamilton remains the clear $1.90 favourite in betting to defend his crown on Sunday night, from Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel ($4.50) and Valtteri Bottas ($6.50).

Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo remains fourth in the Driver’s Championship and represents value to win the British Grand Prix at $12.

Silverstone looks to be tailor-made for this year’s Mercedes, but they do enter the British GP off the back of an absolute horror show in Austria which saw neither of their drivers finish the race.

Strategy errors and worn out tires were compounded by both cars suffering hydraulic failures and the DNF ultimately led to Hamilton being usurped in the Driver’s Championship by Vettel, albeit by a single point.

Bottas will be hungry for a big performance and win following a luckless start to the season which has seen several potential wins slip out of his grasp, completely void of his own doing.

Red Bull carry plenty of momentum into the British GP follow Max Verstappen’s impressive win in Austria. The young Dutchman capitalised on a tough day at the office for several of his top-line opponents and drove away from the field to move within three points of teammate Ricciardo in the Driver’s Championship.

Ricciardo was another notable DNF in Spielberg, but he showed plenty of pace when he was on-track and that could be a great indicator of his weekend ahead. Qualifying in the top eight will be key to his chances.

Ultimately this does look like Mercedes’ and more-than-likely Hamilton’s race to lose, in particular. Barring any technical issues, the Brit can become the first man to post six wins at Silverstone and stamp himself as the British Grand Prix’s best ever driver.

Tip: Hamilton to Win ($1.90)
