Phillips victory provides Olympics hope

Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter Zara Phillips boosted her slim hopes of making the Olympics when she rode Silver Lining V to an eventing victory on Thursday.

Phillips, the world champion aboard Toytown six years ago, has an outside chance of making a five-strong Great Britain team for the London Games.

William Fox-Pitt, Mary King, Piggy French and Nicola Wilson are widely expected to fill four of the places leaving Phillips, the wife of England rugby star Mike Tindall, vying for the final spot with the likes of Tina Cook, Pippa Funnell and Oliver Townend.

On Thursday, Phillips had a dressage score of 30 with clear rounds in showjumping and cross-country rounds at the competition near Aldershot, southern England.
