HOOPTON-ON-SEA, England, Jan 26 PA – Australia’s Karen Murphy has won her first world indoor bowls title by beating England’s Debbie Stavrou in the final of the Ladies World Matchplay in England.
The 37-year-old from Sydney fought back from losing the first set and falling 6-2 behind in the second to triumph at Hopton-on-Sea, in Norfolk, winning 4-10 7-6 2-0.
Stavrou was chasing a record third title but saw her advantage ebb away before losing the tie-break.
“I was under the pump for most of the match and I suppose you could say that I stole the trophy, but that’s what happens in sets play,” Murphy said.
Stavrou said: “I’m pleased to have reached the final again, but Karen played the important bowls when she needed to and probably just had the edge.”
