Former world snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan was in fine form on Wednesday when he booked his place in the last 16 of the Wales Open with a 4-1 win over Hong Kong’s Marco Fu.
Breaks of 52 and 88 gave the Englishman a 2-0 lead and O’Sullivan made 51 in the third only to miss a routine black that allowed Fu to steal the frame.
But O’Sullivan rounded off victory in style with a break of 102.
In other matches, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen set up a last-16 clash with seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry after he hammered former world champion Ken Doherty 4-0.
The home crowd were cheered up as Welshman Matthew Stevens posted a new tournament-high break of 141 in a 4-3 win over England’s Barry Hawkins.
