Pearson headlines Aust indoor aths team

Hurdling superstar Sally Pearson and rising jumps sensation Henry Frayne will both double up at next month’s world indoor athletics championships in Turkey.

Pearson, the reigning 100m hurdles world champion and red-hot Olympic favourite, will contest the 60m flat and hurdles double at the indoor titles in Istanbul.

It will mark the 25-year-old Pearson’s first appearance at a world indoors and only the third occasion she has competed at an indoor meet.

Frayne, whose pet event is the triple jump, will also contest the long jump in Turkey.

And he will take some impressive recent form into the latter discipline, having jumped a massive outdoor personal best of 8.27m last weekend in Sydney, which moved the Queenslander to equal fifth on the Australian alltime list.

The other members of the six-strong Australian team named on Thursday are Craig Mottram (3000m), Dale Stevenson (shot put), Alana Boyd (pole vault) and Ryan Foster (800m).
