Zillman signs five-year NRL deal at Titans

Gold Coast have secured utility back William Zillman through until the end of the 2017 NRL season.

He re-signed with the wooden-spooners to a five-year contract in a major boost for the club.

Zillman was plagued with injury concerns during a three-year career at Canberra, but has been a consistent performer for Gold Coast, scoring 23 tries in 69 games since joining the team in 2009.

The 25-year-old was a rare bright spot for the Titans last year, scoring 11 tries while proving his versatility by switching between fullback, five-eighth and centre.

“Zilly has proved how valuable he is to the team over the past three years and we see him as being one of the future leaders at the club,” coach John Cartwright said in a statement.

“He came to us after having two serious knee injuries and he has worked really hard to get back to the player that he is today.

“He ticks all the boxes so it’s great for the club to be able to sign him to such a lengthy deal.”

Zillman joins new signings Jamal Idris, who is tied to the club until 2016, and prop Nate Myles, until the end of 2015, as the cornerstone of the Titans’ future.

“It’s nice to have my future all wrapped up so I can focus on my football and what we’re trying to achieve here on the Gold Coast,” Zillman said.
