Yow Yeh feels for teammate Kahu’s injury

Jharal Yow Yeh knows a fair bit more about the frustration of injury than most.

After 10 rounds of surgery and two years on the sideline, he understands the isolation of missing football and wondering if you will ever make it back.

Which is why, after an encouraging return for the Brisbane Broncos in the club’s 32-8 loss to the Cowboys on Saturday night, he was the first to run to the side of stricken teammate Jordan Kahu.

Twice before the young New Zealander has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in trial matches.

On Saturday, he was taken from the field again clutching at his left knee. He will need scans, but the early signs aren’t good.

Yow Yeh, beaming after a successful return some pundits said would never happen, knew how important it was to rush to Kahu’s side.

“I was just saying to him `we’ll get through it,'” he said.

“If it’s the worst, we’ll get through it.

“He’s tough, if he does go through something like that again I know he’ll get through it.

“All us boys, the coaching staff, everyone is with him.

“Jordie is a good mate of mine and I know that he will go really well.”

On his own comeback from the horrific ankle break in Perth in 2012, Yow Yeh was positive.

He was feeling little pain and is already cautiously thinking about a possible NRL return.

“Hopefully I can go that next step,” he said.

“I probably will have to have another trial – and a full game.

“Get through the game and (see) how I feel afterwards.

“I surprisingly feel pretty good at the moment – I thought I was going to not feel so well.

“Everything has turned out all right.”
