Woods to Bulldogs a done deal

Canterbury have confirmed the signing of Wests Tigers captain Aaron Woods on a four-year NRL deal.

The NSW Origin and Kangaroos forward will head to Belmore at the end of the season on a deal that will keep him there until at least the end of 2021

He becomes the first of the Tigers’ so-called “big four” to officially confirm their exit from Concord.

Mitchell Moses is understood to have signed for Parramatta, having requested an immediate release earlier this month, while James Tedesco is believed to be close to signing with Sydney Roosters.

While Woods has been the subject of fan abuse since he failed to meet a club-imposed deadline to re-sign with the Tigers last Friday, Tigers officials were full of praise for the 26-year-old on Sunday.

“While we’re incredibly disappointed that Aaron will be leaving Wests Tigers at the end of the season we wish him well in the future and look forward to supporting him as a Wests Tigers player for the remainder of this year,” chair Marina Go said in a statement.

Woods has played 133 games for the Tigers since debuting in 2011, however his immediate future is unclear after he injured his upper leg in Saturday’s 22-16 loss to Cronulla.

He has played 11 Origins for NSW and nine Tests for Australia at the club, and the signing is coup for the already forwards-strong Bulldogs.

“He is proven in both the international and state arenas and that level of experience will be most valuable to our club,” Bulldogs coach Des Hasler said.
