Wolfman to take on Rhinos

Manly winger David Williams has been named to make his comeback from a broken neck in this weekend’s World Club Challenge (WCC) against Leeds at Headingley.

The former international nicknamed the “Wolfman” has not played since injuring his neck in a sickening collision with Melbourne fullback Billy Slater on the eve of last year’s NRL finals series.

Williams missed Manly’s 24-10 grand final triumph over the Warriors and his return has been stalled in the past month by a leg injury.

He was named in a strong Manly lineup that includes only three changes from the starting side in the 2011 grand final.

Manly will be chasing their second WCC title in front of an expected full house of 21,000 at Headingley on Friday night (Saturday morning AEDT) after defeating Leeds 28-20 at Elland Road in 2009.

NRL whistleblower Ashley Klein will referee the match that is forecast to be played in cool, gusty conditions.

Manly: Brett Stewart, David Williams, Jamie Lyon, Steve Matai, Michael Oldfield, Kieran Foran, Daly Cherry-Evans, Jason King, Matt Ballin, Brent Kite, Anthony Watmough, Tony Williams, Glenn Stewart. Res: Jamie Buhrer, Vic Mauro, Darcy Lussick, George Rose, Joe Galuvao, Ben Farrar, Dean Whare (three to be omitted).
