Wicks extends Eels’ NRL deal

Forward Danny Wicks has re-signed with Parramatta until the end of the 2016 NRL season.

The 29-year-old was initially signed to a one-year deal with the Eels and the former St George Illawarra and Newcastle player was delighted to remain at Parramatta.

“I’m very grateful for the Eels taking a chance on me and I’m loving working under Brad (Arthur) and being part of the club,” Wicks said in a club statement on Saturday.

Wicks made his return to the NRL this season after more than five years out of the game.

The former Dragon and Knight was arrested and charged with drug-related offences in 2009, quitting Newcastle after being released on bail.

In 2011, he was sentenced to a maximum of three years in jail after being found guilty of trafficking drugs, eventually serving 18 months of the sentence.
