Wests Tigers keep united front amid drama

The Wests Tigers maintained a united front on Wednesday as the Robbie Farah saga took a new twist.

After coming under fire for failing to front the Tigers’ post-game press conference following Monday night’s 28-6 loss to Melbourne, Farah has taken to Twitter to defend himself against the mounting backlash.

Farah posted a text message he received from the club’s media manager suggesting Keith Galloway front reporters after the match to celebrate his 150th game and to “make it easier” for the skipper.

“Hey mate, just thinking about post match press conference tonight. We might just throw Keith Galloway in there because it’s his 150th game for the Club and make it easier for you? Let me know what you think mate. Cheers,” Farah posted on Tuesday night.

In bizarre scenes, Farah fled from Campbelltown Stadium shortly after the Tigers’ loss to the Storm, having taken stress leave in the build-up to the match.

Teammate Blake Austin claimed he hadn’t seen the embattled captain’s tweet and said it was business as usual for the Tigers.

“I haven’t actually paid my phone bill, so no internet,” he said on Wednesday.

Austin insisted despite losing four out of their past five games, the turmoil surrounding the club was not having an effect on the players.

“We’re not using it as an excuse by any means,” he said.

“We’re a solid group, we stick by each other. We’re backing our captain and we’re backing our coach. We just want to get on with footy.”

The Tigers’ finals hopes have been dealt a blow amid mounting speculation over coach Mick Potter’s future at the team.

This comes as both Bodene Thompson and Sitaleki Akauola face time on the sidelines after being charged by the NRL judiciary following Monday’s match.

Wests Tigers forward Martin Taupau acknowledged that outsiders may perceive Farah and Potter’s silence in the face of ongoing dramas as a lack of leadership, but insisted that was not the case.

“The only thing that’s really affecting us is injuries, we’ve got a lot of boys missing,” he said.
