Wests Tigers piled on seven unanswered tries in wet Canberra conditions to pull off an emphatic 40-0 NRL win over the Raiders on Saturday.
While the performance is sure to spark renewed talk about the premiership hopes of the Tigers, who have won six in a row, the thrashing will only serve to turn up the heat on embattled Raiders’ coach David Furner.
It is the first time since round 19 last year that the Raiders have been kept scoreless at home and consigns them to their fourth loss from their past five games.
On a wet and soggy night at Canberra Stadium, the Tigers ran riot over a lacklustre Raiders’ outfit, who looked impotent in their limited opportunities in attack.
Up 20-0 at halftime, the Tigers then scored another four tries through Beau Ryan, Chris Lawrence, Matt Utai and Liam Fulton for a comprehensive drubbing in front of a crowd of 9210.
Ryan, captain Robbie Farah and Benji Marshall were all in blistering form.
The Raiders, meanwhile, struggled to get the ball and, when they did, turned it over.
Fullback Reece Robinson summed up their night deep in the second half when he made an impressive line break but then dropped the ball with no one around him.
Canberra have lost 12 of their past 18 games at home.
The Raiders headed to the changerooms at halftime to booing from the home crowd after a woeful 40 minutes of play.
Both teams found it hard to keep their hands on the slippery ball, but it seemed worse for the Raiders since they rarely had possession.
By halftime, the Tigers had enjoyed 64 per cent of the ball for three converted tries, all scored far too easily against the Raiders’ sloppy defence.
The first came via five-eighth Curtis Sironen, who was making his starting debut as a last-minute replacement for the injured Blake Ayshford. He dragged two Raiders over the line for an early lead.
Farah managed the next and Ben Murdoch-Masila crashed over, taking three defenders with him, for their third in the 31st minute to go up 20-0 at the break.
