Representative rookie Josh Jackson insists Canterbury can bounce back from their disastrous start to the NRL season.
The Bulldogs have recorded just one win and five losses and no side in the 105-year history of rugby league in Australia has recovered from such a terrible season start to win the premiership.
But 22-year-old Jackson, who makes his representative debut for Country against City at Coffs Harbour on Sunday, said the 2012 grand finalists remain confident they can again scale the heights they did last year.
“One of the main things for us is positivity. We are trying to remain positive all the time,” the back-rower said on Tuesday.
“It is a setback but we can definitely bounce back.
“At the moment we are struggling with the simple things like holding the ball and our errors are killing us but it is just a patch and we will come back.”
After Friday’s 38-0 hammering at the hands of Sydney Roosters, Jackson said the Bulldogs were itching to play again in a bid to turn their form around.
“It’s good to regroup and get your focus back but at the same time you always want to be playing football with your teammates,” he said.
“When you get beaten 38-0, you want to get straight back out onto the park and rectify it.”
Jackson said he was excited about playing his first representative fixture before the Dogs resume their premiership fight against Cronulla in round seven.
“It is a great honour to be picked,” he said.
“I always grew up watching Country play so I am really looking forward to it.
“It’s great to be getting my first taste of rep football.”
