Warriors’ Hurrell back for Broncos match

Konrad Hurrell returns to the centres for the Warriors’ 12th round NRL match against the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Monday.

Hurrell’s inclusion, coming onto the right edge to link up with winger Glen Fisiiahi, is the only change to the starting line-up used in Sunday’s 28-12 win over Newcastle.

The 21-year-old replaces Carlos Tuimavave, out with a neck injury, after last playing for the Warriors against Melbourne on Anzac Day.

Former Gold Coast centre Dominique Peyroux moves a step closer to making his Warriors debut after being included on a five-man bench.

Peyroux, who made 16 NRL appearances for the Titans before joining the Warriors this season, continues his return following a lay-off with a broken jaw.

Warriors coach Matthew Elliott is looking for his team to build on last week’s long overdue win.

“In the effort and attitude stakes, we were terrific but I didn’t think it was one of our best performances in terms of execution,” he said.

“We’ll need that effort and attitude and improved execution consistently if we’re to prosper in the coming weeks and especially facing the Broncos at Suncorp.”

While their completion rate was below 70 per cent, the Warriors came up with their best defensive display of the season last Sunday, restricting the Knights to just 12 points and keeping a team scoreless in the second half for the first time this year.

The Warriors will face a Brisbane side missing four players selected in the Queensland squad for this year’s first State of Origin match at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on June 5 – centre Justin Hodges, back-rowers Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker, and utility Matt Gillett.

Warriors: Kevin Locke, Glen Fisiiahi, Dane Nielsen, Konrad Hurrell, Manu Vatuvei, Thomas Leuluai, Shaun Johnson, Sam Rapira, Nathan Friend, Russell Packer, Feleti Mateo, Simon Mannering (capt), Elijah Taylor. Interchange: Ben Matulino, Jacob Lillyman, Sebastine Ikahihifo, Pita Godinet, Dominique Peyroux.
