Warrington thrash Hull FC by 51 in SL

Australian Blake Austin has scored four tries as Warrington thrashed Hull FC 63-12 to continue their flying start to the English Super League.

The ex-Canberra playmaker crossed three times in the first half and added a fourth after the break, as well as a late drop goal, as Hull FC failed to deal with the Wolves’ clever running and slick passing.

Warrington scored 11 tries in total as they made it seven wins in eight Super League games this season, with the other tries coming from a Josh Charnley hat-trick, a Tom Lineham double and efforts by Daryl Clark and Ben Murdoch-Masila. Stefan Ratchford kicked nine conversions.

Hull FC had been humbled 80-10 in the two sides’ previous meeting.

Up 34-6 at the interval, Warrington started the second half on the front foot with a Murdoch-Masila try and duly romped home with another four scores.

St Helens, meanwhile, had to come from behind to maintain their unblemished Super League record, defeating plucky Hull KR 36-24.

It required late tries from Saints Aaron Smith and Regan Grace to end the resilient Rovers’ late charge, who trailed 16-0 early on.

Former North Queensland star Lachlan Coote scored for St Helens, along with Jack Welsby, Luke Thompson, Kyle Amor, Smith and Grace.

Ex-Cowboy Kane Linnett scored a double for the Tim Sheens-coached Hull KR.
