Warrington have won their English Super League grand final rematch with Wigan 25-12 but finished the game with just 11 players after the match in Cheshire lived up to its “bad blood” tag.

Wolves forward Ben Westwood, the oldest player in the Super League, was sent off and Dec Patton (Warrington) and Willie Isa (Wigan) were sin-binned following a brawl six minutes from fulltime.

Wigan also had Dan Sarginson sin-binned as they suffered a fourth straight defeat since their World Club Challenge loss to Sydney Roosters, and as the pressure mounts on interim coach Adrian Lam.

Warrington’s victory lifts them to second place, two points behind St Helens, and gave them revenge for their 12-4 grand final defeat in October.

Wigan were heading for a comprehensive defeat when they trailed 18-0 five minutes into the second half, but a rally brought them a couple of quickfire tries and set up a tense finish in front of a 13,106 crowd.

In Leeds, meanwhile, London Broncos staged a remarkable late comeback to snatch an 18-16 win over the Rhinos at Headingley.

Leeds appeared to have a much-needed victory wrapped up with four minutes to play, but tries from London’s Matty Fozard and Will Lovell left them shocked.

A sixth defeat of the year did not appear even a remote possibility in the closing stages after Richie Myler, Trent Merrin and Tom Briscoe had scored to leave the Rhinos in full control after a dismal first half.

Wakefield also beat Hull FC 32-12 thanks to a Bill Tupou double.
