Gold Coast prop Luke Douglas has re-signed with the Titans for another three years but his record-breaking run of consecutive matches is in danger of ending this week.
Douglas on Monday night set an NRL record by playing his 195th straight match, eclipsing former North Sydney halfback Jason Taylor’s long-standing mark.
But the 27-year-old is in doubt for Sunday’s clash with Wests Tigers at Cbus Super Stadium with a thumb injury, which will undergo an ultra-sound on Thursday.
Douglas’s retention is a boost for the Gold Coast and comes after they re-signed Kevin Gordon and Ryan James.
“Luke is a valuable member of our side and he has shown his loyalty by remaining here when he could have earned more money elsewhere,” said Titans coach John Cartwright.
“He gives enormous value to the team not just in the amount of games he plays but the commitment he gives on and off the field; he’s professional in every aspect in the way he approaches the game.”
The older brother of Wallabies lock Kane, Yamba-product Douglas is currently in his third season with the Titans after playing 146 games for Cronulla.
