Tuivasa-Sheck happy for Mini to play on

Sydney Roosters utility Roger Tuivasa-Sheck says he is happy for club legend Anthony Minichiello to play on again in 2015, but still views himself as the former Golden Boot winner’s long-term successor at fullback for the Tricolours.

Tuivasa-Sheck has been swapping between fullback and wing with Minichiello game-to-game and week-to-week as coach Trent Robinson seeks to find the most effective combination in the lead-up to the NRL finals.

Minichiello, enjoying his 15th season in the NRL, is expected to make a decision on his future this month.

Ahead of Saturday’s round 17 clash against embattled Cronulla at Allianz Stadium, Tuivasa-Sheck, 21, said he would be happy to see the Roosters premiership-winning skipper play on in 2015, but still views himself as the future custodian.

“I feel that I am still growing into the role, that I am still learning about the role,” he said.

“I enjoy it every time we get possession in good field position so I can jump into fullback and attack, but from this game you learn lessons like when to pass and when to take your runs.

“All of that I am still learning like timing and execution

“I let the boys down a few times with some of the decisions I made against Manly and there are still some points I have to improve on.

“I have nine more games in the regular season and want to make the most of those opportunities.”

Tuivasa-Sheck said Minichiello’s help has been invaluable.

“Robbo and me still touch on me playing fullback (in the future) but at the moment I know that Mini is there and if he goes again I am happy to have him at the back because he is such a good player and it is good to have someone like him around,” he said.

“He is the best defensive fullback in the whole game and that is where he has really helped me.

“My defence, that was a poor part of my game.

“All the little details that I never knew about, all the numbers (in defence), he is great to have.”
