Parramatta will wait until Tony Williams faces court next month on a drink-driving charge before determining a punishment for the former international star.
Williams faced court on Wednesday over the matter, after it’s understood he was charged with mid-range drink driving last month.
The matter was adjourned until February 14 to allow for the former NSW State of Origin and Kangaroos player to complete a safe driving course.
“Tony did make the club aware of the situation immediately and the NRL Integrity Unit was informed as per our normal process,” the Eels said in a statement.
“Once the legal process has been completed the club will work with Tony and his management on the relevant next steps.”
Williams signed with Parramatta over the off-season, after a pectoral injury derailed his efforts to crack into Cronulla’s first grade side in 2017.
A premiership-winner at Manly, Williams moved moved to Canterbury as a big-name signing in 2013 but his form dropped significantly towards the end of his stint at the Bulldogs in 2016.
The second-rower was hopeful of cracking into Parramatta’s top side at the start of the pre-season, but admitted even he was surprised he had been handed a lifeline by the club.
