Gold Coast have named Matt Srama and Anthony Don as the replacements for injured duo David Mead and Beau Falloon for Sunday’s NRL clash with Parramatta in Mudgee.
Mead (broken jaw) and Falloon (broken ankle) both suffered serious injuries in last weekend’s 32-6 loss to rivals Brisbane.
Srama will move off the bench to take Falloon’s place at hooker with Sam Irwin coming into the squad while Don makes a straight swap for Mead on the wing.
“They’ve had a bit of a taste of first grade and both have done a pretty good job when they’ve come in and filled in,” coach John Cartwright said on Tuesday.
The only other change from the team which took on the Broncos last round is the exclusion of David Taylor, who will be suspended for at least the Eels clash.
The Titans are disputing the grading of a dangerous contact charge against Taylor at the judiciary in the hope of reducing a possible three game ban down to just one.
The hearing will be held on Wednesday evening and Cartwright was confident of a positive outcome.
“We just believe that there wasn’t a swinging arm, it was very hard for him to pull out of the tackle,” he said.
“Perhaps caught him a little high but we’re going to contest the grading and we’ll take our chances down there.”
Cartwright was confident lock Ashley Harrison will overcome knee soreness in time for Sunday’s match while co-captain Greg Bird has pulled up fine from a sore neck after the Broncos game.
Titans: William Zillman, Kevin Gordon, Brad Takairangi, Jamal Idris, Anthony Don, Aidan Sezer, Albert Kelly, Luke Bailey, Matt Srama, Nate Myles, Greg Bird, Mark Minichiello, Ashley Harrison. Interchange: Luke Douglas, Mark Ioane, Ryan James, Sam Irwin, Luke O’Dwyer.
