Titans confident Kelly head knock not bad

Concussed halfback Albert Kelly will have to pass a series of tests this week before being cleared to play for the Gold Coast against St George Illawarra on Sunday.

The creative No.7 suffered a heavy head knock and was taken from the field during Sunday’s controversial one-point loss to the Warriors.

Under a concussion crackdown this season, he will need to convince the club’s medical staff he is fully recovered before he can play again.

Kelly made the flight back from Auckland on Monday confident he’d take on the Dragons in their Mother’s Day clash at Skilled Park.

Players suffering concussion are required to complete a computer-based concussion management program known as CogSport which determines whether it is safe for them to return to the playing field.

All players are tested pre-season and their results used as a base guideline for them if they suffer head trauma.

The test measures things like motor function, reaction time, attention and memory.

The Gold Coast believe they would have pulled off a comeback win across The Tasman had match officials not awarded Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson a questionable try in the 52nd minute after he appeared to knock the ball forward in the air before regathering.

Referees’ boss Daniel Anderson said the decision and the game had yet to be evaluated.
